Catholic Cardinal Shares Good News Over Brews
Jul 28, 2007
A bar is not where you expect to see Cardinal Justin Rigali.
(NBC10.com, July 27, 2007) PHILADELPHIA -- But that's exactly where the Catholic leader was Thursday night.
It's called "Theology On Tap," and it's a way for the Catholic clergy to reach out to young people.
The archbishop spoke to a group at Finnegan's Wake in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia.
After moving through the crowd and shaking hands for about 15 minutes -- and declining at least one offer of beer -- Rigali discussed working for the three popes he came to know well as their English-language translator.
"What I agreed to speak to you about tonight was to introduce you a little bit into a world that I lived in for 30 years," he told the audience.
Many patrons at the popular pub came up to greet Rigali during the break -- and ask for his autograph.
Catholics in their 20s and 30s are being invited to "Theology On Tap" every Thursday through Aug. 16, where they'll take on different topics in open-ended discussions.
