English Catholic Teaching on the Eucharist a 'Church Discipline'?
Sept 11, 2004
"When I was at the very very beautiful - not just St Giles Ceremony - but the very very beautiful Communion Service this morning, it hurts me as much as it hurts you I know, that I do not share in the Eucharist you offer."

At the 2002 General Assembly Card. O'Brien (then Archbishop Keith Patrick O'Brien of the Archdiocese of St Andrew's and Edinburgh) misled Scottish Presbyterians when he pretended that unchangeable Catholic teaching on the Eucharist is no more than a "Church discipline". Below are his precise words:

"…And when I was at the very very beautiful - not just St Giles Ceremony - but the very very beautiful Communion Service this morning, it hurts me as much as it hurts you I know, that I do not share in the Eucharist you offer. And because of my own Church discipline at the same time I bow, I pray. I pray for unity and then pass on the elements. That hurts me as it hurts you, I know."
