Nov 27, 2006
The Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez yesterday advised the foreign ambassadors in the country to "not get in too far" in Dominican issues, after considering that some "speak hastily and shouldn’t."
(Dominican Today, November, 27 2006) Santo Domingo.- The prelate’s response is to declarations by U.S. ambassador Hans Hertell, who affirmed that in 5 years he hasn’t seen advances in solving Dominican Republic’s main problems and criticized the lack of respect to the State of Law in the country.
"I don’t like to see ambassadors meddling in Dominican issues; I have never accepted it. And here they are very hasty. Not only the North American, who otherwise I also hold with esteem and he has always treated me with much distinction," Lopez said.
Interviewed after officiating a mass in the 27 de Febrero Naval Base, the Santo Domingo Archbishop also said that he’s against extending the alcohol sales schedule on account of the Christmas festivities.
