Cardinal insists on concluding Dominican polls vote count

Six days after the Dominican midterm elections, the cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez again demanded that the Central Electoral Board conclude the count of the votes cast on May 16, after pointing out that the population went to the polls in an orderly manner and gave an example of civism.
(May, 2006) SANTO DOMINGO.- "I believe that here what is needed, now, and which is what there entire country needs is simply to demand that the Board finishes counting the votes," he said Today Monday.
Lopez Rodriguez questioned that the political leadership is inviting its rank and file to street disorders, but did not mention the name of any party in particular.
The Archbishop of Santo Domingo said that there are legal mechanisms to file claims of electoral rights without violence, in reference the more than 10 people who have lost their life in incidents linked to the electoral process.
He affirmed that there are many people who are not prepared to lose and stated that "he who does not have the capacity to lose should not participate in political activity."
The cardinal spoke during of the Dominican Episcopal Conference, when making public the message from Pope Benedict XVI, on the social mass media.
Announced during the ceremony was the opening of a website of the different organisms, to learn of the Catholic Church’s diverse manifestations in depth.
