Parents Told To Tell Stories On National Independence

The Cardinal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento on Saturday here advised parents to tell their children about the process which led to the country`s independence, the overthrow of the colonialism and the martyrs of this process.

(AngolaPress, Luanda, 11/05 2005) Alexandre do Nascimento, who was speaking at a worship in commemorations of the 30th anniversary of the country`s independence, added that its is necessary to tell the young people that the national independence is sacred as it cost the lives, blood and tears of many Angolans.

He also pointed out the need of remembering the hardships and everything that has been done as positive and negative to avoid that the new generations repeat the same mistakes and benefit from the good the country has.

According to him, it is fair to present to all Angolans gratitude for the independence and to those ones who have lost their lives in battle-fields.

Cardinal Alexandre do Nascimento also said that we should not forget the support provided by the late Pope John Paul II during the period he received in audience the first Angolan President, Antonio Agostinho Neto, and sent a congratulatory telegram to the nation in its independence day, November 11, 1975.

Worship has been attended by over 7,000 people, among them politicians and diplomats.
