English Cardinal sees "Lost Tomb" as absurd
Mar 02, 2007
The archpriest of a major Roman basilica has described the TV film “The Lost Tomb of Christ” as “a colossal absurdity.”

Rome, Mar. 2, 2007 (CWNews.com) - Cardinal Andrea Cordero Lanza di Montezemolo, the archpriest of St. Paul Outside the Walls, ridiculed the argument by director James Cameron that the names found on ossuaries in Jerusalem identified the tomb as belonging to the family of Jesus.

The names cited by Cameron-- Jesus, Mary, Matthew, and Judah-- were extremely popular in the Holy Land at the time of Christ, the cardinal observed.”It would be like today finding an Italian tomb with the name Mario Rossi-- the most popular in Italy.”

The Vatican has not offered any official comment on the film, which will be presented to the American television audience on March 4. The comment by Cardinal Cordero Lanza di Montezemolo was the first public response from an important Church official in Rome.
