English Venezuela's Hugo Chavez Cannot be Trusted
Nov 13, 2007
After Peru's President, Alan Garcia announced that Hugo Chávez and Venezuela could possibly be trade partners while investing in Peru, there have been an array of responses from many different people. Garcia has defended and justified his position by stating that Peru's economic interests are first.

(livinginperu.com, 13 nov 07) -- Venezuela's President, Hugo Chávez is not a lucid person, that is not the ideal state of a good trade partner for our country, said Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani when giving his opinion on whether Peru should do business with Venezuela's president.

"I'm saying what many Peruvians say, this man Chávez creates a great deal of bewilderment. Very disrespectful and a little arrogant. He isn't very clear and those conditions are not ideal for a partner and I think that things need to be carefully evaluated," said Cipriani.

Furthermore, he stated that he doubted that Hugo Chávez would respect the promises he made. "I'd rather have more open and clearer policies, which let me know who we are doing business with and making investments with. Up until now I don't really trust him," stated Lima, Peru's cardinal.

The religious leader denounced the president's attitude towards the Catholic Church in Venezuela and affirmed that Hugo Chávez mistreated all of the bishops in his country, stating that this was a bad sign. "His arrogance is dangerous."
