Cardinal Ján Chryzostom Korec, Bishop of Nitra (Slovak Republic), was born on 22 January 1924 at Bosany in the diocese of Nitra. He entered the Society of Jesus on 15 September 1939; he had to interrupt his philosophy studies in 1950, following the suppression of the order.

El lanzamiento en Roma de las memorias del fallecido cardenal Agostino Casaroli ("Il martirio della pazienza", Einaudi Editore), quien fuera secretario de Estado de la Santa Sede e impulsor de la llamada "ostpolitik" vaticana, hizo revivir polémicas en torno de este delicado tema de la aproximación diplomática y diálogo con los regímenes comunistas. Una de las voces más críticas que se ha levantado es la del cardenal eslovaco Ján Korec, de 76 años, nombrado cardenal en 1991 y uno de los más importantes testimonios vivos de la "ostpolitik" en Checoeslovaquia. Významné životné jubileum 80 rokov oslávi vo štvrtok nitriansky diecézny biskup, kardinál Ján Chryzostom Korec. Pri tejto príležitosti sa v tento deň o 10:00 v Katedrále sv. Emeráma v Nitre uskutoční slávnostná svätá omša, na ktorej sa zúčastní apoštolský nuncius Henryk J. Nowacki, všetci katolícki biskupi i ďalší domáci a zahraniční cirkevní hodnostári. Il Card. Ján Chryzostom Korec, Vescovo di Nitra (Repubblica Slovacca) , è nato a Bošany in diocesi di Nitra il 22 gennaio 1924. Entrato nella Compagnia di Gesù il 15 settembre 1939, interruppe gli studi filosofici nel 1950, in seguito alla soppressione degli Ordini Religiosi. Ricevette l'ordinazione sacerdotale il 1° ottobre 1950 all'età di 26 anni e il 24 agosto 1951, a 27 anni, ricevette clandestinamente l'ordinazione episcopale dal Vescovo Pavel Hnilica.
