Easter Is Not Just a Tradition

People have to reduce the distance from Jesus and recognise his shape through difficulties and life pains, said the cardinal.

(javno.com, March 23, 2008) ZAGREB, CROATIA - Cardinal and Archbishop of Zagreb, Josip Bozanic, celebrated Easter’s holy mass in Zagreb’s Cathedral. He invited the believers to pray and to celebrate living Jesus.

On example of Mary Magdalene, Bozanic warned nowadays human egotism and stated that we should start running towards Jesus again, as our pace has become too slow and heavy, due to self-love and fear of losing to our incorrigible fears.

- Nevertheless, today is Easter! The heavy stone has been removed and the grave opened. The Lord has defeated death and lives forever. We can not remain close anymore and we must spread and announce this to all human hearts. Hence, this Easter must not be futile – said Bozanic, and stressed that Easter must not be only a tradition which repeats every year, but it should change the lives and the hearts of Christians.

The archbishop continued and asked himself whether human beings of the present are able to seek God, as sometimes it seems that people invest their strengths and worries in material things.

- I have to stress that Paul the apostle does not urge Christians to neglect temporal duties and to withdraw from the world. On the contrary, he often invites Christians to be the salt and the light of the world – said Bozanic, and added that people must close the distance from Jesus and recognise his shape through difficulties and life pains.

At the end of the service, the cardinal wished the believers of Zagreb, and Croatians inside and outside the country, a happy Easter.
