English Cardinal Castillo Lara insulted by Venezuelan President Chávez
Aug 06, 2005
The Venezuelan President, Hugo Chávez Frías, during his weekly television show, "Hello President" called Cardinal Rosalio Castillo Lara an "outlaw, immoral, pharisee, and a pantomime".

(NoticieroDigital.com, July 20th, 2005) The President´s furious response was originated by an interview that the Cardinal Castillo Lara gave to a venezuelan newspaper, in which he said that venezuelan elections were a pantomime, and called the Venezuelan regime "a dictatorship".

President Chávez said the "Cardinal Rosalio Castillo says that elections are a pantomime. He is a pantomime. He is a participant of a coup d' etat and the Pope must know this. And the Vatican nuncio must know this. He is a hierarch that calls himself a representative of God. The Cardinal says that people should not obey the most ominous government that has been in Venezuela. Of course, outlaw Cardinal! you were a bawd of the outlaw governments of AD and Copei (political parties in Venezuela). Outlaw, bandit, immoral...".

President Chavez has previously had verbal confrontation with members of the Catholic church, which have dissented of his performance as a chief of the Venezuelan state.
