English Movements are a Resource
Mar 12, 2006
Concerning ecclesiastic movements, Pope Ratzinger intends to maintain the same line as John Paul II, who extolled them as a new spring in the spirit of the Catholic Church.

(AGI) - Vatican City, Mar. 10 - And today Secretary of State Angelo Sodano defined them as "a resource, since they perform a praiseworthy effort for the revitalization of the conscience of the baptismal commitment". Obviously, the cardinal recalled, they must always be in communion with the Church and they integrate themselves with humility in the life of local churches and in diocese and parish tructures". The recognition of the importance of "new charismas" is contained in the message sent in the name of the Pope to the president of the Pontifical Council for Laymen, Monsignor Stanislaw Rylko, who is presiding over the first Meeting of Ecclesiastical Movements in Latin America from March 9 to 12. In the text, movements are encouraged to "share in a brotherly way the wealth of their spirituality and experience to contribute to giving greater vigour to Christian life in this part of the world in which the Church places so many of its hopes".
